I am so very pleased to have come across this website! The links are fabulous. I was surfing for some info on the G minor Ballade (I am studying it). I really don't know much about the Ballades-But in listening to them I felt that they definitely each conveyed metaphysical story (programmatically speaking). I mused over No. 1 and came up with my own little narrative reverie. Now that I know they were inspired by the poems of Mickiewicz, I cannot wait to do a bit more research and find out how close I am to his intentions.Thank you for assisting!

Greetings To All,         I thought I knew Chopin, until I wondered in into this site.        I have been aware of Chopin for over 30 years, and read his biography by Artes Orga.  I find this composer, above all others a superior/"ubermenschen"man and artist!and proably the most original of all.Ofcourse Charles Valentin Alkan and John Field also share this quality.                                            Sincerely,                Alvaro Guevara,composer/neo-romantic p.s.not atonal 20th century cacophony!Anyone wishing an example of my tunes for the cost of a cassette and postage only, can viste my website for details.              Or send me an email, list above.

I like Chopin very much because his music is so pleasant to the ears, his style is different and is very refined, I dunno, words can't describe it. However, I don't quite like Lizst's flamboyant playing style-the "crashing" and banging of piano. But I do like   Lizst later works(written when he was older) they are more akin to Chopin's. Of Lizst's works, I think I like "La campanella " best, it's the "piano version" of Paganini's virtuostic violin playing!  I think this homepage of yours is great, I really like it. By the way, could you please tell me the details of the Deutsch Grammophon 17CDs of Chopin that you bought? I'm really looking forward to get them.  You like piano very much, don't you? I have 2CDs to recommend to you. The first one is"London Pianoforte School" the pianist is John Khouri, he plays 1812 Broadwood Grand pianoforte.Composers featured are John Cramer, Jan Ladislav Dussek, Muzio Clementi and John Field the "nocturnes expert". The sound quality of the 6-octave piano is marvellous(The brand is Entracte)! The second CD is "Thomas Duis live on Klavins Mod.370", the piano's sound is really powerful!Thomas Duis plays works of Beethoven( The brand is Klavins music).    Please E-mail to me as soon as possible. Thank you! Oh yes, I almost forgot to tellyou that your homepage is marvellous!

Favorite works: Chopin's waltz in c# is narcotic.  I like that.  Especially in my car, driving through the mountains here.  At sea (I'm a coastal biologist), I can hear it in my head like a radio, but can't play a tune.

Favorite composers: Vivaldi, Bethoven, Chopin, Clapton, ...mostly the well known ones, because I don't know a lot about the classics.  I just enjoy listening to the music.

Favorite interpreters: Don't know what interpreters are, but I guess that means arrangements, conductors, etc.  There is a Korean Restaurant in New Orleans where the owner plays violin for you.  He's in the N.O. symphony orchestra, or equivalent.  Very talented.  A Japonese MD friend of mine & I used to go there to eat kim-che, drink saki, and listen to the music.  His wife would always get bombed. Don't know any interpreters besides that one (or those two).  Maybe you can recommend??? Can't' buy hard copy here so I have to get stuff off the internet.  What I have, friends send me or I get at audiogalaxy.  Some of it is pretty good.  But too much to know.  Believe it or not, I went to school (UMich, 1974-1980) with Rachmaninof's grandson.  Weren't friends, just met.  He took some evolution courses I took. Seemed really down to earth.

Comments:

What else has Chopin written that is 'like' Op64 No2, but not the same.  What do you do besides read & maintain this website? Thanks for this site.  I printed everything up to commit to memory when I have some time.

Favorite interpreters: Rostropovitch,Ashkenazy,Rubenstein,Richter,Horowitz,Michelangeli,Maisky,Isserlis,Geringas,Fournier, Aldulesku.

Comments:

Rostropovitch was an incredible cellist and deep musician at his prime.Fournier was such a deeply musical cellist and never showy.  I have special respect for Vladimir Ashkenazy. Those early 1963 recordings of Rachmaninov Concertos Nos.2 and 3 are so special. So sensitive and yet wonderfully brilliant. I also like his Rachmaninov Concerto No.4 with Previn. The recording of the Paganini Variations with Previn is excellent. He plays so much together with the orchestra. He is also such a neat pianist with his fast fingerwork. I also like certain Prokiev recordngs he has made.I played cello in an orchestra when he played two concertos in 1973. He played superbly. So sensitive and fantastic fingerwork.

Chopin is 10% of my disks, 90% of my listening.  This is the best site I've found in one day of looking.  I was expecting to find much more than I've found so far.  I feel the urge to follow your lead and work on a site aimed at Chopin's 200'th birthday celebration (rather than his 150th death "celebration" as you did).  Maybe largely in WikiWiki format so others could get involved easily.  Thanks for the site.

It is incorrect to state that Arthur Rubinstein "shunned contemporary music all his life" --- as your website does. In his early career, he championed composers who were contemporary with himself --- such as Szymanowski and de Falla.  Later in life, he concentrated more on the 19th-century repertory for which he became famous.
