work list
Chopin composed more than 200 works during his lifetime and
dedicated most of them to his friends and students. Works
with opus numbers from 1 to 65 (except opus 4) were published during Chopin's
lifetime. Although Chopin wished to destroy all of his unpublished manuscripts, Chopin's friend Julian Fontana, with the consensus
from Chopin's mother and sisters, selected more than 20 piano
pieces and published them under opus numbers from 66 to 73 in 1855,
and 17 songs under opus 74 in 1859. There were also works
without opus number published during Chopin's lifetime and other
posthumous works not published by Fontana (e.g. opus 4 was first
published by Charles Haslinger in 1851, two years after Chopin's
death). These works were later
catalogued by Maurice John Edwin Brown (Br Index), Jzef Michał Chominski (C Index), and Krystyna Kobylanska (KK
Index).
Br Index is in chronological order of composition. C Index is in
alphabetical order starting from works with opus and ending with
posthumous works. KK Index follows the same method as C index using
page numbers. For more information on these indices, visit "Catalogue des oeuvres de Chopin":
[Br Index],
[C Index],
[KK Index].
This work list
is modified from the lists by Maurice Brown, Jzef Chominski, Krystyna Kobylanska,
and Roman Mueller. All

Work
dedications are compiled from various score editions.
Quotes on selected works
are gathered from the archive of the National Library in Warsaw
and "Selected correspondence of Fryderyk Chopin" by Arthur
Hedley published by Heinemann. The complete list of dedications, quotes, and publication time are first made available online at this
website. Please do not copy and redistribute at another website
